AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Some of the food that was hauled away from the Laney-Walker Grocery Store on Tuesday will now be sorted and sent to the Golden Harvest Food Bank.

About 300 people crowded around the store hoping to collect food and other products to watch them get loaded up into trucks and taken away on Tuesday.

Hiram Thompson, owner of Thompson Wrecking, was called in to haul all this away.

"I know Mr. Thompson to be a person that cares a lot about the community as a donor. I know Mr. Thompson cares a lot about the community," said Golden Harvest Executive Director Travis McNeal.

Thompson divided the items between his employees and the food bank.

All of the perishable items were thrown away and more than 100 boxes will be donated to the Golden Harvest Food Bank.
