UPDATE: Name released of man killed in Salley motorcycle accident

SALLEY, S.C. (WRDW) -- The name has been released of the man killed in a motorcycle accident Thursday night.

The coroner says 75-year-old Marlyn Whetstone of Salley was driving a a motorcycle around 11:30 last night when he lost control.

It happened on Clinton Church Road. Officials say it appears he possibly was attempting to avoid something and left the road on the right shoulder.

Officials say he was attempting to get the motorcycle back onto the roadway when it overturned. Whetstone died from multiple body trauma. State troopers say he was not wearing a helmet.

Toxicology is pending. The SCHP and the Aiken County Coroner's Office are investigating the death.
