JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW) -- The coroner confirms a mother died on the way to a relative's funeral on U.S. Route 1 just south of Wrens Thursday morning.
The coroner said 38-year-old Heather Irwin Phillips and one of her three sons were headed to their grandmother's funeral at the time of the accident.
Irwin's 10-year-old-son Jordan was airlifted to MCG. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Clinton Washington, 51, was not injured.
Georgia State Patrol say a tractor trailer hit a gold Honda accord head on when a pick up truck slowed down to make a left turn on a private road. The GSP specialized reconstruction team is investigating the accident.
No charges have been filed at this time, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
