AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- An 8-year-old Hephzibah boy was found dead at the bottom of a swimming pool, and now his family wants answers.

It's been a little more than one month since the death of 8-year-old Jon Stevens.

An investigation by the Richmond County Sheriff's Office determined the death was an accidental drowning.

Now, Jon's mother, Jeannette Stevens, along with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, is asking for detectives to take a second look.

"I miss my child," Stevens said. "I will not stop searching and finding answers."

Her son's body was found last month in a neighbor's pool around 1 a.m.

Stevens says she called authorities earlier that evening when he never returned from playing at the neighbor's house.

"I cry," Stevens said. "I want to know why my son is gone, why I can't hold my baby anymore, and I don't have any answers, as of April 13, that my son is not here anymore."

Stevens says he was afraid of water and doesn't know how he could have gotten into the pool on his own.

"It's very suspicious," she said.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office released an official statement which says they've investigated and interviewed all known witnesses and found no evidence of foul play.

Investigators say the case is officially open until a final autopsy is complete.
