AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) -- Family and friends of Lukisha Thomas say she always was smiling.

"Her personality was just so nice, she was always trying to help other people out," said Maria Saxon, Thomas' sister.

Her words are hard to find on days like today.

"She was my world, we was together," she said.

Her baby sister's life, lost way too soon.

"They called me and told me that she was in an accident, she had got hit, and I just rushed back home to see about my sister," Saxon said.

Her sister was walking with her 2-year-old son and the child's father, Ray Wooden, Saturday afternoon.

Investigators aren't sure what happened next, but all three were hit by an SUV, then rushed to the hospital.

Thomas died there a short time later.

"She was here and now she's gone, and I just don't know why," Saxon said.

Her sister left behind five children, four boys and one girl, who all looked up to her.

Her sister says Thomas was always there for them with open arms.

"She was always with her kids, and that was her main focus to be with her kids and make sure they had, and do whatever she needed to do for them," she said.

For now, all Saxon can do is have faith that in time, things will get easier.

"God will see me through this, see us through this, as far as to get on, 'cause that's what she would want, make sure her kids was alright," she said.

Funeral arrangements for Thomas have not been announced yet.
