EVANS, Ga. -- A park bench in Evans has a special new honor.
A metal bench at the Evans Towne Center Park was dedicated this morning in loving memory of Otis L. Crowell.
Crowell lived in Columbia County for more than 40 years. He died last year and was a member of the Coalition of Quality Government. That organization paid to dedicate the bench.
His family says to have a place they can always come to honor him means the world.
"Columbia County means a lot to all of our family, and it's a real special day," said Linda Crowell, Otis' wife.
"It's nice to have this bench here to when we come here we can sit down and look over and my dad's here. So it's a really special thing," said John Crowell, Otis' son.
"I just think it goes to show the kind of government we have and county we have and that we recognize important people and the impacts they've made on our lives," explained Stacie Adkins, the Columbia County Recreation and Events manager.
Proceeds for the memorial park bench plaques support the Columbia County Arts Development fund. The fund helps provide financial support to nonprofit groups by helping them pay to rent county rental facilities. You can dedicate a bench for $1,300 or a park tree for closer to $500.
