AUGUSTA, Ga. -- News 12 has exclusively learned a captain over security at the Augusta Youth Development campus is off the job for now.
The Department of Juvenile Justice confirmed Cpt. Victor Martin is suspended with pay. The reason given is an investigation into "possible employee misconduct."
That suspension came on Nov. 10, just two days after 19-year-old Jade Holder died. The GBI says he was beaten inside his YDC cell inside unit 43 on Nov. 7.
The DJJ has not released specifics on the incident, so we don't know if this is connected to Holder's beating death or not.
The suspension letter is signed by John Brady, identified as the facility director. The order is also attributed from Kendra Strowbridge, the Augusta YDC Assistant Director of Operations. In it, it states the suspension will last up to 30 days while the department investigates.
That captain has been told to stay away from the facility, not contact any co-workers and ordered to turn over his keys.
News 12 has also confirmed on top of the homicide investigation, officials are investigating reports of contraband inside after our report last week. Thirdly, we've learned there is a sexual harassment investigation underway.
We hope to learn more details on the captain's suspension today.
Also, Michael Everidge, 17, is charged with Holder's death. He has a bond hearing for felony murder this morning.
The GBI has not ruled out more arrests in the case.
