AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is investigating another alleged sexual assault of an inmate at the Augusta Youth Development Campus.
We are told the accuser was taken to the hospital last Saturday night to be examined, which is when the incident was reported. The inmate is now back at the Augusta YDC and the investigation is ongoing.
The GBI tells News 12 they are still trying to determine if the crime did take place and if so, who to charge.
News 12 launched a full-scale investigation into the Augusta YDC in November when a 19-year-old inmate died after being assaulted inside the facility.
The facility has been in hot water since November when 19-year-old Jade Holder was fatally assaulted by his fellow inmates. YDC inmate Michael Everidge, 17, has been charged with Holder's murder.
A 14-year-old inmate was allegedly molested by 17-year-old Devin Scott Ardoin on Dec. 4. He is facing charges as an adult for the aggravated child molestation, but News 12 is told a recent change in the law affects the case. Ardoin will be charged with a misdemeanor as opposed to a felony for the incident.
There have also been complaints of contraband finding its way into the YDC.
News 12 discovered the DJJ has terminated at least 37 employees within two years due to illegal contraband, physical abuse and some were even cited as child abuse. In another case, there was an inappropriate relationship between a guard and a youth. But out of all 37 listed, only one officer has faced any criminal charges.
There have also been recent changes in the facility's leadership.
Augusta YDC Campus Director John Brady was fired Dec. 5.
The DJJ announced 3 additional employees were fired on Dec. 16. This includes Natasha Neeley, Christopher Cann and Sharon Taylor. In addition to terminating these three employees, the DJJ also demoted Paul Cloutier and Kendra Strowbridge from their positions. Cloutier and Strowbridge, who were assistant directors at the facility, were relieved of their duties and offered demotions and transfers.
