AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The Richmond County Sheriff's Office responded to the playground on F Court in Olmstead Homes Tuesday around 8:50 p.m. for what they're now calling suspicious activity, according to an incident report.

A witness at the playground told police she saw a 2-year-old girl wearing a pink jumper by herself, the report said. The report said when the woman asked the child who she was with, the child could not say where she lived or point out anyone she was with.

The woman told deputies while she went to get help, a black man grabbed the 2-year-old and said something like "I got this," the report said. She said she asked the girl "Is this your daddy?" and the child said "No" and started kicking and struggling to get away. The report said the witness saw the man running away with the child toward Milledge Road.

Deputies investigated the area and searched for the suspect. After interviewing the witness again, the woman told deputies the man had been playing basketball at the playground and said he was the child's father. The report said the woman heard the girl tell the man she didn't want to leave yet.

Based on the new information, deputies suspended the search around 10:49 p.m.
