Martinez, Ga. (WRDW) -- Evelyn Spencer is a continued care resident at The Place at Martinez.
She says her days haven't been much fun lately, because she's been stuck inside due to the summer heat.
"Well it's usually very warm and I have to come right back in," Spencer says.
But Helen McVicker wants to change all of that.
McVicker is the CFO of a non-profit organization called "When Help Can't Wait" that provides people in nursing facilities with things they wouldn't otherwise have.
"We are the only agency that donates to nursing homes...so it would have to start with us," McVicker says.
She wants to get a cover built at the Place at Martinez so residents have a way to go outside and keep cool at the same time.
""The elderly in our country are being overlooked...that has to change," she said.
