AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The Richmond County Sheriff's Office said a downed power line on Wallace St. was a "suspicious situation."

The power line fell into the road after midnight on New Year's Day. The sheriff's office said that someone may have caused damage to the power lines and caused an outage.

The downed line set the street on fire and melted parts of the blacktop.

Georgia Power crews worked to fix the problem early Wednesday morning.
