AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Next week, Augusta commissioners will decide if more tornado sirens are needed in Richmond County.

There are currently three in Richmond County. Two sirens are on GRU's campus near the intersection of Spellman Avenue, Goss Lane and Walton Way. The third is on Tobacco Road near the East Central Regional Hospital.

Commissioner Bill Fennoy says that may not be enough. Two hundred mph winds blew homes in Moore, Okla., to pieces. Twenty people were killed, including seven kids.

"It's the big one that we prepare for every day," said Disaster Preparedness Coordinator Mie Lucas.

Lucas' job is to give families the best warning in case something like this happens here.

"I don't think you can ever be fully prepared. You can watch your news stations and keep in touch with your emergency personnel," she said.

"The two we do have are right across the street from each other. We would like to have a survey done to let us know where we should put them," Lucas said.

Sirens won't stop the storm, but she says they could end up saving more lives. One siren could end up costing anywhere from $15,000 to $30,000.

Augusta commissioners will begin the discussion on Tuesday.
