AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Army Sgt. Joe Smith loves golf.
But Smith and many other soldiers' love for the game might be all they have.
"Having the equipment is another thing, having the means is another thing," he said. "A lot of soldiers are unfortunate."
Army Sgt. 82nd Airborne Keith Gilbert said he had a lot of learning to do.
"I had no clue, I had no equipment, I didn't even know the rules of the game or nothing."
As they learn their game, they also learn its value.
It's a form of healing for Army Specialist Heath McClung after an IED left him with limited mobility.
"It's one sport that I can still be competitive at, even with my injuries, luckily," McClung said.
"More or less helps with my healing, it's therapeutic," Gilbert said.
It's these stories that compelled David Truitt to help these guys through Green2Green.
"The gentlemen I spoke to didn't have anything, you know, they come in and they have their uniforms," Truitt said.
It may be all they have and here's how you can help.
"We want as many donations as we can get. Bags, balls, clubs, you know, anything that has to do with golf that can help out the soldiers," Truitt said.
Truitt is taking these in at Taylor Hyndai in Augusta.
"I can't tell you a golfer that I don't know that ain't got three clubs in his garage and half of them are in tip top shape -- they've just moved up," Truitt said.
"It's really cool to see the community donate golf clubs for wounded warriors and they will definitely be used for a good purpose," McClung said.
And so, this weekend we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, Smith says, "Please give back to the soldiers."
They also hope for a shot at a second chance.
If you want to help donate, you can go to Taylor Hyndai on Washington Road right next to California Dreaming and Warren Baptist Church.
They'll be there all weekend and they are giving free car washes until Monday for those that donate.
