AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- This was the last Monday on the job for Augusta's City Administrator's right-hand man.

Bill Shanahan is leaving to take the top spot as administrator for York County in South Carolina.

City leaders aren't sure if they'll fill his position or reclassify it. Things are looking up for Deputy Administrator Bill Shanahan.

A new job in a new city has him packing up pictures, and awards. "Every day is not a good day, but the good outweighs the bad," said Shanahan.

For two years, Bill Shanahan has been City Administrator Fred Russell's right hand man. He over saw day to day operations and is proud of his role in reorganizing the Fire Department, Human Resources and 911.

"We've done some good things. It's a work in progress of course. We had issues at 911 and did the same type of thing," he said.

"We're proud of what he's done here," said City Administrator Fred Russell.

Bill is one of 2 Deputy administrators. City leaders are not sure if they'll fill that position.

"I don't know if I need that level of supervision, as much as I need an analytical approach to processes," said Russell.

In York County, South Carolina, Bill will oversee 1,400 hundred employees and will be getting of a raise of $20 to $30,000. He says one of the saddest parts of leaving is not being able to see issues like Downtown Parking resolved. He also wants to leave a word of advice to the leaders of Augusta.

"When you talk about measuring, once you get to where you want to be you need to look at it and start all over. It's one of those things that lives on forever," he said.
