AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Three men are recovering after getting stabbed Thursday morning in downtown Augusta.

Deputies received the call around 2:30 a.m.

It all started when one of the victims said the suspect, 20-year-old Patrick Dechant, tried to use a fake ID to get into The Loft on Broad Street. The victim took away the ID.

When Dechant came back asking for the ID, the victim says he refused to give it back, which is when he says Dechant pulled out a pocketknife with a 3-inch blade.

Another man standing near the altercation kicked Dechant's hand that was holding the knife. The three victims say Dechant started walking away, which is when the three victims started walking toward him.

When they reached 9th Street, Dechant allegedly lunged forward and stabbed the third man, cutting him from the chin down to the chest.

Dechant ran to the front of his car and all of them began fighting.

Deputies say Dechant stabbed the left arm of the first victim and the left forearm of the second victim. The second man was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Dechant was taken to the hospital. He is said to be in fair condition.

One of the victims says he plans on prosecuting Dechant.
