Deputies: Man breaks into CVS with sledgehammer

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Two people said someone broke into a CVS on Wrightsboro Road with a sledgehammer late Monday night, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

The witness and complainant told deputies they saw a man break into the store's pharmacy.

After a general description of the suspect's car was given, deputies attempted a traffic stop on a similar truck, a black Chevrolet Silverado. After a short chase with the Sheriff's Office, the driver, Bryant Williams, lost control of his vehicle and hit several trees on Walton Way.

Williams, 26, told deputies he broke into the CVS on Wrightsboro Road to get Klonopin prescription pills. Deputies say Williams told them when he was inside, he couldn't get to the pills because of the pharmacy's metal security door.

At the CVS, deputies said the witnesses identified the sledgehammer taken from the truck. Williams was charged with second-degree burglary, fleeing and attempting to elude and reckless driving.
