AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Twenty three people died on South Carolina and Georgia roads over the Labor Day weekend.

Friday through Monday night, 13 people died on South Carolina roads, according to Highway Patrol. The number of deaths in South Carolina are up compared to last year's nine.

On the Georgia side, Georgia State Patrol said they were called out at 10 traffic fatalities. In Georgia, the numbers are the same. GSP said they were called out to 10 deadly crashes during the 2013 Labor Day weekend.

In the water, the three-day holiday period was filled with four drownings, nine boating incidents and 17 boating under the influence (BUI) arrests statewide, Georgia DNR Law Enforcement Division Rangers said. Last year, there was one drowning, six boating incidents and 18 BUIs for the holiday weekend.
