NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW) -- Crews put out a structure fire on the 300 block of Hill Street Friday morning that is now being called suspicious by investigators.

Investigators say the fire started around 1:40 a.m. in a vacant duplex.

A family who lives next door woke up to a funny smell in their apartment, which is when they saw smoke coming from the ceiling. The family was able to get out safely and called 911.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
