BEECH ISLAND, S.C. (WRDW) -- One person was taken to the hospital after a fire at a mobile home in Beech Island on Thursday.

The fire happened on Indian Mound Road in the Russell Hill area just after 5 p.m.

Investigators say the fire started in a bedroom and was caused by "the careless discarding of a smoking device." They say the fire was contained to the bedroom that it started in.

Theresa Bonner, who was rescued from the home, is being held at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center and is in stable but critical condition.

The Beech Island Fire Department, the Midland Valley Fire Department, the Belvedere Fire Department, the Silver Bluff Fire Department, the Aiken County Sheriff's Office and Aiken County EMS responded to the scene.
