AUGUSTA, Ga.--Two people are behind bars after deputies say they discovered a meth lab in a local hotel. Jackie Ray Beasley and Heather Studer are both being charged with possession of meth and cocaine as well as trafficking meth.
It all happened at the Economy Inn on Dean's Bridge Road Friday morning. Guests at the hotel tell us it was a pretty startling wake up call.
"We get this loud banging on the door," she said. "They're like, they were cooking a meth lab next to me and they need to check to make sure that nothing like leaked over, and I'm like wait what?"
Early Friday morning, a deputy noticed a man acting suspiciously in the parking lot of the Economy Inn. One thing led to another, and investigators realized they might have a meth lab on their hands.
"At any time, I could've just blown up...They would've found out later, oh she died because the meth lab next to her exploded," she said.
The threat of chemicals seeping into her room was especially scary for Rivers, because her 5 year old niece was staying with her.
"She was like, 'Oh there's a child in there?' I'm like yeah. 'She's like oh we really need to check," she said.
Investigators found ingredients used to make meth including household chemicals, small propane tanks, and plastic bottles, along with cocaine and meth in the room.
"We wouldn't have known nothing about it. I'm still kind of in shock," she said.
Ayanna says she's thankful it wasn't worse, and the chemicals didn't explode.
"That stuff is dangerous. I'm kind of scared. I might go across the street I don't know,"
Sheriff's investigators seized 1.2 grams of meth and 2.1 grams of cocaine from that hotel room.
