Vandalism at Aiken Co. school leaves principal in shock

BURNETTOWN, S.C. -- A pressure washer, a mop and bucket, and a whole a lot of elbow grease are three things needed to erase a night of vandalism at LBC Middle School.

"Certainly, at this point, we suspect juveniles," said Cpl. Margaret Dale Usry with the Burnettown Police Department.

Along with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, she responded to the scene Wednesday morning to see it for herself.

"It was a lot. I mean, normally, it's a broken window at the back or a broken window at the front, but today, it was every door," she said.

Roll after roll of toilet paper hang from the trees like spider webs. Egg after egg is smashed against windows and doors. Shaving cream is splattered on there too. Spray paint "trollface" faces cover the wall.

"That was disappointing," said LBC Middle School Principal Brenda DeLoache.

She says perhaps most sinister was what was done to door locks.

"Glue was placed in about every exterior lock outside the building, and we have several buildings, so it was about 50 locks," she said.

However, they did manage to get a couple open, so school wasn't interrupted.

DeLoache says there are no suspects right now. While it could be a student or multiple students responsible, she says it's hard to say for sure, but what she can say for sure, is how disappointed she is and how this hurts the whole district.

"The damage to the locks and just the cost of the cleanup is a waste of our money, the school's money and taxpayers' money," said the principal.

Workers were able to get the glue out because they say it was wood glue -- not super glue. The spray paint wasn't washable, so they'll have to paint over these faces that seem to laugh at the workers below.
