EVANS, Ga. -- Sir Galahad Drive in Evans was closed Thursday afternoon as crews worked to fight a blaze.

The public information officer on the scene says a woman was rescued from the home and was taken to Doctors Hospital.

State fire marshals will be called in to investigate since the homeowner is a firefighter.

Columbia County EMA Director Pam Tucker says there is an increased risk of uncontrolled fires in the area until Friday. Tucker says forestry officials say fuel moisture levels are in low, partly due to a lack of rainfall over the past few weeks. Burn permits are not being issued at this time.
