AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The commissioner of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice announced on Tuesday that she will retire Nov. 1.
Gale Buckner was brought in last year after the death of 19-year-old Jade Holder at Augusta's Youth Development Campus.
Since then, Buckner has had to deal with multiple reports of officer misconduct and sexual assaults. She made a number of visits to Augusta during inspections and news conferences to talk about changes at the YDC.
Buckner is stepping down to serve as a chief magistrate in Murray County.
