Augusta, Ga (WRDW)-----Augusta Commissioner Grady Smith announces his plans to run again for the district 10 commission seat. He's been in office for the past three years.

Smith says he's voted on some pretty big issues and sometimes it's meant standing alone. "I trust Grady. I trust him. I've enjoyed working with him this past year," said Commissioner Mary Davis.

Commissioners Mary Davis and Wayne Guilfoyle were just a handful of supporters that showed up to support Grady Smith. He sat on the back of a Ford pick up truck and announced re-election bid for the District 10 commission seat.

"You look around and a lot of people have it a lot worse than I have it or had it," said Smith.

In 2012, he missed a handful of meetings because he was sick. He later told News12 that he has diabetes and actually had to lose a few toes.

"Worrying about my health, I appreciate it, the only person that should be worried about my health is my insurance agent,"

Smith says he's a down home guy that just votes from his conscious. During his three years on the commission, Smith has had some pretty big votes. He voted for the Tee Center, he also voted for the city to move people out of Hyde Park. Smith also was the only one who voted against firing Tom Beck who was accused of falsifying time sheets.

"I just don't believe in treating people that way. It was one of my votes. I stood by myself and that's the way I felt," said Commissioner Smith.

Smith also came under fire after a news12 investigation uncovered three commissioners were doing work for the city with their private business. They were censured for violating the ethics policy.
We wanted to know can the voters trust Grady Smith.

"Well let me put it this way. The one's they better look at are the paranoid one's that aren't up on their latest things with the county. I'm a sub contractor not a contractor," said Smith.

Smith goes on to say, he's an honest businessman that loves representing the people.

Commission district's 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 are up for election this year.
