AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The Army is inviting the public to comment on the environmental impacts of possible force reductions.
In July, the U.S. Army Environmental Command in Texas issued a report showing the Army's "worst-case" scenario of a fighting force falling from a 2012 level of 562,000 soldiers to 420,000 by 2020.
In the assessment, Fort Gordon could also lose half its civilian and military workforce -- about 4,000 people -- and take an economic hit of $282.6 million.
Public comments about the proposed workforce reduction should be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Comments can also be sent by mail to: U.S. Army Environmental Command, Attention: SPEA Public Comments, 2450 Connell Road (Building 2264), Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas, 78234-7664.
Public comments must be submitted by Aug. 25.
