COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. -- A student was taken into custody after he was found with a knife on school property Monday morning.

The Columbia Middle School student told friends on the bus he had a weapon on him. The principal was notified.

When the student was pulled out of class, authorities found a pocket knife with a 2 1/4 inch blade on the student.

The student claimed he found the knife after he got off the bus and that he did not tell any of the school officials because he thought he would get in trouble.

The student was later taken to the Regional Youth Development Campus. A court date has not been set at this time.
