AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) -- Co-workers of the motorcyclist killed this week in North Augusta plan to hold a rally to remember their fallen friend.

Barry Playford, 51, died Tuesday night after investigators say the driver of another car ran a red light on Old Aiken Road.

Marsha Hopkins worked with Playford and was holding back the tears when talking about Barry. She says the sadness is just too much for her and her employees.

"If there would've been anything Barry could've done to avoid this, it would've been done," she said.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the accident is still under investigation, but troopers didn't have anything new to report today.

That's little relief for a group of friends missing their buddy. Hopkins says drivers need to be alert when they are driving.

"You just want to plead with people to look at where they are going," she said.

Playford's last job at Aiken Motorcycles Sales and Service was behind the counter. The counter now serves as a memorial to Playford's life. However, before helping customers at the counter, Playford worked as a mechanic.

Joseph Dennis knew Playford for 15 years and worked with him in the shop.

"It's different walking past his work station and him not being there. Or to have a question and know that he's not there to answer it," Dennis said.

Hopkins decided to close the store early on Thursday and Friday so co-workers can have time to grieve and take part in the services in memory of Playford.

The loss is hard for these co-workers who are more like family. Hopkins says Playford was one-of-a-kind.

"He's irreplaceable," Hopkins said.
