AUGUSTA (WRDW) -- City leaders are ready to kick off the remodeling of their home.
The groundbreaking ceremony for renovations to the municipal building is set for Monday, April 22. Things are expected to get started at 11:30 a.m.
Augusta commissioners gave approval to break ground on changes to their home earlier this year.
City Administrator Fred Russell says they need to fix handicapped access and bring the municipal building up to current fire codes. The renovations include updating the elevators, more handicap access and changing the entrance. Approximately $32 million will be spent on the building, which includes $7 million to update the IT department and additional funds will be used on buildings surrounding the municipal building.
