AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Many families throughout the world are affected by cancer. But for Holly Pilcher, cancer is the last thing she ever thought her 5-month-old baby would be facing.
Peyton Pilcher has spent most her 15 months of life in and out of the hospital after being diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, a malignant tumor that was bleeding in her liver.
Peyton remained the Children's Medical Center for one month and then continued to make weekly visits for chemotherapy and blood transfusions.
For her mother, this meant being extremely careful putting Peyton around other children because she was very susceptible to disease. She says it was almost like keeping her in a bubble.
"It was frustrating and upsetting but knowing it was only because of everything she was going through. Knowing she will catch up and she was going to get better and was going to do what regular babies do, she just needed to get better first. Knowing she was going to have a great story to tell," said her mother.
That tumor has been removed and little Peyton is on the road to recovery.
