AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The Richmond County Coroner's Office confirms a boy injured in an accident earlier this month has died.

8-year-old Jaidyn Williams has been in the hospital since being hit while trying to get on the school bus on Dec. 9 near the intersection of Asbury Place and Belair Road.

Deputies say 20-year-old Scott Hancock was driving the van that hit the Sue Reynold's Elementary School student. Hancock is currently in the Richmond County jail charged with serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving and more. Investigators say it could be Friday before any decision is made to upgrade those charges.

Witnesses say the school bus' stop signs were out and the lights were flashing.
