UPDATE: Child dies after being hit by car outside home

WAGENER, S.C. (WRDW) -- A 2-year-old is dead after being hit by a car outside his home in Wagener on Thursday.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton says the child, Ryan Eagerton, was pronounced dead on Thursday at 4:18 p.m. at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, S.C.

Carlton says the child's father, Patrick Eagerton, was the driver of the vehicle. The incident happened at the family's home on the 200 block of Garvin Drive just before 3 p.m.

The 2-year-old was transported via helicopter to the hospital.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, but the Aiken County Sheriff's Office says, "Investigators have initially determined that there is nothing suspicious at this time about this case and it appears to be an accident."

Deputies were called out to a home on Garvin Drive just before 3 p.m.
