AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW) -- One man has been taken to the hospital with serious injuries after his car slid off Chimebell Church Rd. and wrapped around a tree.
The Chevy Cobalt crashed around 8:30 at the intersection of Chimebell Church and Chimebell Park Drive. The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the driver was traveling east on Chimebell Church when he hit a post with about 20 mailboxes on it.
Troopers say he then slid off the road and into a tree. The crash snapped the tree in half, and the car wrapped around the tree, collapsing the passenger side. He was the only one in the car and had to be cut free with a chainsaw. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Troopers won't say whether or not speed was a factor, but they do tell us they are investigating.
