NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW) -- Two cities and two groups are fighting for cancer on Friday.

"We are celebrating survivors and hoping to wipe out cancer. Raising a lot of money for cancer research and support," said Kristin Bogdin, the North Augusta-Midland Valley Relay for Life event chair.

Relay for Life brings hundreds together to team up and raise money for the American Cancer Society.

"I discovered I had prostate cancer in 1999," said Bill Saudter.

That marked the beginning of Saudter's almost 14-year battle with cancer.

"I take four pills each morning," Saudter said. "There are some after-effects, some morning effects, but in general I've been very fortunate."

While Saudter lives in Greenwood, S.C., he never misses a chance to walk with his son in the North Augusta relay.

"My wife also had cancer. She had breast cancer," Saudter said. "We're both survivors, and we thought it was important to show that you can have cancer, you can be treated with cancer and you can be very active with cancer."

He says it's not just an event -- it's an opportunity.

"I think it's important for people to show their support. And see how resilient people who have cancer -- they are. And vibrant," Saudter said.

Now, he's just hoping to raise as much as he can for cancer research.

"Some are more fortunate than others," he said. "And Alice passed away this past spring, had survived for 13 years. And I'm in my 13th year."
