BURKE COUNTY, Ga. -- Some parts of Burke County could become a little X-rated if one group gets its way. County leaders say there's a new interest in possibly opening an adult establishment in an unincorporated part of town.

Commissioners recently voted to put a 90-day hold on all new X-rated businesses. The unincorporated area of Burke County is mainly home to farmland, trees and open spaces for horses.

"They voted on a moratorium and are working on an ordinance," said Burke County Administrator Merv Waldrop.

Officials would not tell us who inquired about opening an X-rated establishment or what type of venue they wanted to open. All they would say is that the planning commission asked Burke County commissioners to temporarily put a hold on all adult entertainment permits.

The planning commission wants to adopt an ordinance to regulate any future adult establishments.

"It ain't right. They don't need it. The neighborhood would go down," said Burke County resident Jeff Haynes.

Roughly about 23,000 people live out in the county. Thousands of men and women also work at a nearby plant.

"I don't think it will hurt my business at all. I would not protest it myself," said business owner Greg Hawkins.

"My point of view is that it's not moral. Who would want to come in these woods to see someone strip?" said plant worker Michael Roberts.

"You put that many men together and a handful will go into a strip club," said truck driver Rickey Vaughn.

Officials are in the early stages of developing the ordinance. The public will also have a chance to voice their opinion to commissioners.
