AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- A student from Waynesboro is one of 31 students across the state named as outstanding scholars by the University System of Georgia.

Viniecia Colley is a junior criminal justice student and attends Albany State University.

Colley is the mother to an 8-month-old, Terrance Smith Jr., who was born last summer. She was able to stay on track with her education by taking classes online.

"I am determined to succeed. After graduation, I plan to work in probation and parole. Ultimately, I'd like to own a private investigation firm,” said Colley in a news release.

Colley graduated from Burke County High School, ranking third in her graduating class.
