Bullets fly through Dogwood Terrace home for 2nd time in 2 weeks

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- It's been two and a half weeks since 8-year-old Shayla Doyle showed News 12's Laura Warren the bullet hole in her bedroom wall at Dogwood Terrace. And now, it's happened again.

Shayla showed us another bullet hole, this time, shot through her family's living room window in a drive-by shooting Sunday night.

Her mother, Shameka Doyle, says, "When they fired the shots, the shots came in, hit my living room window, then went into my living room wall."

Doyle has now filed three incident reports in the past four months: one for a burglary and two for bullets flying through her walls.

"It could've been one of my children instead of the wall or the window," she said.

News 12 went to the Augusta Housing Authority with Doyle to see if they could transfer her to another complex. They say they aren't transferring anyone right now until all of the residents in Cherry Tree are relocated, unless it's for a medical reason.

Doyle says if housing can't help her get a transfer, she's going to do everything she can to move out. But that will be hard since she already works two jobs to make ends meet and pays $354 a month out at Dogwood Terrace. She says, one way or another, she has to do something because the violence has become too much for her to handle.

"You always hear gunshots, whether it's morning noon or night, you gonna hear a gunshot," she said.

And she's afraid if she can't get out of Dogwood Terrace, the next shot she hears could be her last.

"I'm scared for me and my children," she said.
