Update: Brush fire comes dangerously close to homes in Graniteville; origins look suspicious

Monday, Jan. 20, 2014

GRANITEVILLE (WRDW) -- Firefighters, with the help of neighbors, put out a brush fire that came dangerously close to homes in the Sage Creek Subdivision in Graniteville.

Flames and smoke reached to the patios of some homes. The blaze melted some vinyl siding, burned a fence, and charred a grassy field in between the subdivision and Byrd Elementary.

News 12's Chad Mills is on the scene and says firefighters are suspicious of the fire's origin, and they allegedly called for the Aiken County Sheriff's Office to investigate.

We are working to find out more information and will pass it along as soon as it's available.
