MARTINEZ, Ga. -- A woman is in jail after the bomb squad found a suspicious device in her Columbia County hotel room early Wednesday morning.
It all happened on South Belair Road at the Georgia Inn around 1 a.m.
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office says a witness told them 24-year-old Amy Dodd showed her the device and told her not to worry, that it was not for the hotel and for a person who killed someone in Hephzibah instead. Authorities also found materials to make the device in the room, including a .38-caliber bullet, potassium nitrate and matches.
Dodd has been arrested and charged with possession and manufacturing a destructive device. Bond has been set at $10,100.
The manager says there were two men staying in the room and Dodd had recently moved in. He says the men have been staying there for six months and have never caused any trouble. The men were not charged in this incident.
The side of the inn where the device was found was ordered to evacuate overnight. The scene has been cleared since then.
The device was taken into an empty parking lot where it was detonated.
