BEECH ISLAND, S.C. (WRDW) -- A soldier from Beech Island was one of four killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday.

The Department of Defense released their names on Thursday, which includes 21-year-old Spc. Ember M. Alt.

Alt joined the Army in May 2011 and was deployed to Afghanistan for the first time on Nov. 26, 2012. She served as a wheeled vehicle mechanic.

She was a member of the 32nd Transportation Company, 68th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 43rd Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division.

During the course of her military career, she was awarded the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

According to the DOD news release, Alt and three others died from their injuries after being hit by indirect fire from enemy forces in Bagram, Afghanistan.

The others killed in the attack include 25-year-old Sgt. Justin R. Johnson of Hobe Sound, Fla.; 21-year-old Spc. Robert W. Ellis of Kennewick, Wash.; and 30-year-old Spc. William R. Moody, 30, of Burleson, Texas.
