AUGUSTA---Bad news for fishing and outdoors fans. Talks have broken down in plans to bring a Bass Pro Shop to Augusta.
In 2008, the store announced plans to open up in the Village at Riverwatch shopping center off River Watch Parkway. However, the company put that plan on hold when the economy tanked.
Now Augusta administrator Fred Russell says any deal is basically dead in the water.
"You know I think Bass Pro is totally out of this particular picture as we speak," he said. "But what is going to happen is you are going to end up tracking side parcels to that particular building, and I think they already have some in the queue that are looking at building there."
Yesterday, a city commission committee did approve a $10 million tax package to bring Costco to that same planned shopping center.
