Augusta man pleads not guilty to homicide by vehicle during drag race

AUGUSTA, GA. (WRDW) - An Augusta man accused of killing someone during a drag race has pleaded not guilty.

Dameon Brigham pleaded not guilty Tuesday to homicide by vehicle, racing, driving on the wrong side of the roadway and reckless driving.

In February, two cars were racing on Birdwell Road. One car, driven by Tikori Kemp, left the road and struck a tree. Kemp was taken to the hospital and died from his injuries.

The other vehicle, driven by Brigham, was found at fault for failure to maintain lane and racing.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- An Augusta man is dead and another is in jail after a deadly street race over the weekend, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office said.

Dameon Brigham, 26, was charged with vehicular homicide, wrong way driving, drag racing/street racing and reckless driving Monday.

Two cars were racing on the east and westbound lanes on the 400 block of Birdwell Road Sunday around 7 p.m., according to a report. One car, driven by Tikori Kemp, left the road and struck a tree.

Kemp was taken to the hospital in a private car by an unknown person, the report said. Kemp died from his injuries at the hospital.

The other vehicle, driven by Brigham, was found at fault for failure to maintain lane and racing, the report said. Kemp's vehicle also has a contributing factor of racing.
