AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- An Augusta firefighter's tweet is getting national attention.

Augusta firefighter Andre Lacey tweeted: "How you signing the anthem lookin like an illegal immigrant," in response to a Hispanic child who sang the national anthem for Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

The tweet about 11-year-old Sebastien De La Cruz was posted Tuesday before 9 p.m.

City of Augusta officials are responding, saying they are aware of an inappropriate comment made by one of the firefighters on Twitter. They say it's under investigation.

Augusta Professional Firefighters Association President Charles Masters says the city does not have a social media policy. Masters says the firefighter wasn't on city property or time and those are his personal views.

Lacey's account has since been deleted.

De La Cruz tweeted: "Please do not pay attention to the negative people. I am an American living the American Dream. This is part of the American life."
