AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Richmond County fire crews were on the scene of a house fire near downtown Augusta Monday night.
The call came into Richmond County dispatch around 8:45 p.m. to Clark Street.
There was heavy smoke and flames when crews arrived, but firefighters were able to hose the building down.
Officials say a homeless family had been staying at the home to keep warm and were trying to smoke out mosquitoes when the fire happened.
