Attempted traffic stop turns into police chase in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- An attempted traffic stop on Richmond Hill Road and Windsor Spring Road turned into a chase this afternoon in Augusta.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office initiated a traffic stop on a red Dodge pickup truck before the truck sped off.

The vehicle went through a fence on 1900 block Gerald Drive East, the sheriff's office confirms. During the chase, the driver threw something out of the car that deputies couldn't recover.

The driver is now in custody.
