AIKEN, S.C. -- A man has been arrested for allegedly starting a fire inside his apartment on Tuesday.

Reporting officers arrived at the scene and saw large amounts of smoke coming from the apartment on the 1200 block of York Street.

Whitton Armond Hicks allegedly burned the victim's clothes. Investigators say the domestic issue started before the fire. The victim said she didn't know there was a fire until she saw smoke and did not know how it was started.

There were three children inside the apartment at the time of the fire.

Hicks is facing charges of arson and three counts of unlawful conduct toward children.
