MARTINEZ, Ga. -- One person is in the hospital following an apartment fire on Petersburg Circle late Thursday night.
That person has been identified as Demetria D'antignac. We are told, as of Friday, she is in critical condition.
The call came in around 11:15 p.m.
Firefighters on the scene were told one adult and two children were inside. The adult was found and taken to the hospital. After searching the rest of the apartment, crews learned that the children had been staying with a family member and weren't inside.
Flames were contained to the apartment where the fire started and there were no other injuries.
The residents of the surrounding apartments were allowed to return home after the air quality was checked.
The fire started in the kitchen area of the residence and has been deemed an accidental cooking fire, pending an ongoing investigation.
Officials say they will most likely not have any further information on the incident until they can speak with the victim as the only witness.
