AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- It's not even been a full two months into the new year and the Augusta area has already witnessed several murders.

But instead of letting it beat them down, this group is ready to push back -- fighting youth violence with community support.

"We don't have to be superstars to be good role models ... basically, you can just be a good role model by taking care of your business," said Travis Wright, co-founder of the anti-violence group.

Wright and three friends decided they were tired of hearing about crimes and feeling helpless.

"When we said enough was enough was when we noticed that the age trend started to go down, down, down," he said. "And I've got a son that just turned 16."

In response, they formed Live and Let Live CSRA "to be kind of like a Yellow Pages for mentorship groups, for people that are already active in the community," Wright said.

And they're growing as they work with groups already out there trying to curb the violence.

"I don't want to click my heels for victory just yet until we get to December and notice that that death toll is far lower than last year," Wright said. "That's the ultimate goal is to actually make a dent, to make a difference."

This meeting brought together a panel of community leaders, each representing a group that provides mentorship for at-risk teens.

And these community leaders know just how much these issues effect their neighborhoods.

"It has hit home. I've lost a first cousin a few years ago. He was about 30 years old, but he was killed by a young man that was 15. A senseless murder."

"I've had friends murdered," said group member Garrick Willingham.
