RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW) -- Augusta Richmond County will open a shelter for families in need of a warm place to stay.

The Richmond County Department of Family and Children Services and the American Red Cross will operate the shelter at 2920 Mike Padgett Hwy Augusta, GA 30906.

The shelter will open at 12 p.m.

This shelter will replace the shelter that lost power last night at May Park. The shelter volunteer staff and three residents that checked in last night will be provided transportation to the new shelter.

Families are asked to bring pillows and blankets and any items they may need for the night, including infant supplies and extra snacks for dietary needs.

One bag per person with personal items is allowed. Pets, weapons and alcohol are not allowed at the shelter.

We apologize for the delay in opening a new shelter today, with much of Richmond County without power, we wanted to select a facility that we knew had power and back up in case the power went out again.

For questions, please call 706-821-1155.
