WASHINGTON, Ga. (WRDW) -- A 3-2 vote will pay the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office $516,000 a year to run operations for the Washington Police Department, Washington Councilman Marion Tutt said.
Initially, Washington planned to give Sheriff's Office $400,000 making the amount more than $100,000 than estimated.
On July 17, Washington City Council voted 4-3 to disband the police department. Washington Mayor Ames Barnett broke the 3-3 tie.
Employees at the Police Department are getting four weeks pay for severance.
