UPDATE: Aiken Public Safety officer shot, suspect in custody
An Aiken Public Safety Officer has been shot after responding to a call Saturday morning.

AIKEN, S.C. -- An officer with the Aiken Department of Public Safety was shot Saturday morning after responding to a call.

Officers responded to a call of suspicious persons at Eustis Park on Edgefield Avenue near Church Street around 7:35 a.m. When they arrived, there were two vehicles in the park several hundred yards apart. A suspect in one vehicle fired on the officer.

SLED, Aiken Public Safety Officers and Aiken County deputies are in the area of Edgefield Avenue and Perrin Street.

The officer was taken to Aiken Regional Hospital. The condition of the officer is unknown at this time.

The suspect, 26-year-old Joshua Tremaine Jones, was taken into custody. He was captured on the 300 block of Youman Street in Batesburg, S.C.

Law enforcement officials have not released the name of the officer at this time.
